Twitter Chats and Hashtags
I followed two Twitter chats (#kinderchat and #1stchat). I have to start off by saying I am not sure if I joined the chats correctly. When I searched the hashtags, I thought it was going to be like a chat room with an ongoing conversation, yet it was more like a Facebook post where others can comments and re-share. It also used hashtags similar to Instagram. There was a few different posts I came across. Some were posts about upcoming conferences others were posts about books and the majority of them were individuals posting some of the great activities going on in their classrooms. There was one random woman who posted about the Bachelor Finale (completely useless post for me).
For the most part, with the exception of the random post, individuals were professional; yet there was a feel of openness and welcoming about the posts. Everyone seemed respectful of what others were sharing and I did not notice any negative comments or posts. (I wonder if this was because those following the chat were educators?)
From following these two Twitter handles I learned that there are so many opportunities for networking with other educators, as well as, many others in education. There are some many amazing individuals doing awesome things and they are willing to share their knowledge with others. It is important to understand how to navigate through Twitter in order to get the most out of this networking. I can see how using this networking opportunity can enhance my knowledge and ability to tackle certain concepts in my own classroom. A couple of the posts for activities and links cold be of assistance for me. I came across activities I can use with my own students. If I continue to network through Twitter I can see myself acquiring new things to use in my own classroom and being able to share with others the things we are doing.
