Learning Innovation Lab: 6/3/18
Saelee:
The audience for this Capstone project is teachers. I believe she was effective in presenting to teachers in every page because she touches on aspects that are important to teachers, throughout her Capstone Project and she specifically asks questions for teachers. Being an educator myself, I also felt like this was a site that I could go to in order to learn about digital tools for personalized learning.
Gottfried:
The audience for Lisa’s Capstone project is teachers and students. I feel like she does a good job about incorporating information that is useful for both teachers and students, but I think she focused more on students. I think she was quite effective in addressing the student audience because she added many links for how-to’s. Yet, her home page seemed to be trying to hook teachers. I think it would have been more effective if she had chosen one audience instead of two.
Ellison:
Ellison’s Audience is definitely teachers. I think she is effective in presenting toward her selected audience on each page. I believe she was particularly effective in reaching her audience in her lessons and how-to’s links because I, as an educator, felt like I had what I needed to begin to gamify my classroom.
Avrukin:
Avrukin’s audience is teachers. I feel like she did address teachers throughout her Capstone but she had a plethora of information on some of her links. I feel like she shared too much and her videos were quite long. Being an educator means you have a million things to do, therefore, I think she would have been more effective if she would have had shorter videos for the how-to’s. I felt overwhelmed at times.

About the Author...
My name is Teresa Barron and I am a Dual-Immersion intervention teacher at Edwin Markham Elementary School. I have been in the Vacaville Unified School District for 13 years. All of my years of work have been as a Dual Immersion classroom teacher at Markham, with the last six of those being a part-time intervention teacher. I have been able to teach K-6 and have learned much from each grade level. I believe that in order to be a great teacher, one must embrace the idea of being a life-long learner.
I chose to work in the Dual-immersion program because I enjoy being able to use my native language as a tool for teaching and learning. Growing up, I was an English Language Learner and I feel that my background and experiences allow me to better assist students whom like myself are learning a second language during their early academic years. I take pride in being a role model for students and knowing that I can instill in them the idea that they can become anything they choose to be.
I am also a wife and mommy of two wonderful boys, whom I love immeasurably! They are my constant motivation and I strive to instill in them the importance of education, as well as, the importance of being a life-long learner. This is one of the reasons why I decided to further my education and pursue a Master’s degree. I want to not only be a role model for my classroom students, but also for my own boys! I want them to have the desire to accomplish great things utilizing the knowledge they acquire throughout their educational careers.
As I sit here reflecting on the past few months in the Innovative Master’s Program, I can vividly remember when my colleague, Stephanie, mentioned attending an informational meeting for this program, through Touro University. I could not have possibly imagined, back then, the roller coaster ride I was stepping into. Yet, I am glad I did! I have learned and grown immensely as an educator. Throughout the program, I have been introduced to a variety of technological tools and with the focus of TPACK, I have been able to utilize this technology to address each of my students’ unique academic needs. This has also helped me to cultivate 21st Century skills in my students. These skills are essential for their success in the ever-changing future. I continually strive to set my students up for success.
Driving Question for Capstone: 5/29/18
My original driving question was, “What effects does Guided Reading Have on Reading Comprehension and Reading Accuracy?” I feel like I was able to work easily with the Ex-post Facto data that had been collected and my cycle of inquiry ran quite smoothly. I did, however, struggle to find current literature on my topic. Yet, I was quite satisfied at the end of my cycle of inquiry.
My driving question has changed as a result of me not being in my regular placement in a classroom. Since I am now sitting in as Assistant Principal, I was not able to personally collect data from my students. With the guidance of my last professor, I chose to change the focus of my driving question to, “How do you introduce a new Guided Reading curriculum to elementary teachers in a strategic manner?” My driving question still has a link to the curriculum we are being introduced to, and my audience is still the same. My audience is mostly teachers, but administrators can also make use of the information in my Capstone project.
